Autoimmune Association Releases Statement on EUA for COVID-19 Booster Doses
DETROIT – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), expanded the emergency use authorizations (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines to allow certain people with compromised immune systems to receive a third “booster” dose on Thursday, August 12, 2021. Given that studies have shown people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have a serious case of COVID-19 if contracted, coupled with the rise of the Delta variant, Autoimmune Association recommends that any person living with an autoimmune disease contact their physician immediately to discuss an additional booster.
