President Biden Signs Legislation that Includes Language to Establish an Office of Autoimmune Disease Research
December 29, 2022 — The Autoimmune Association applauds Congress for passing and President Biden for signing the omnibus federal spending bill that includes language to establish an Office of Autoimmune Disease Research (OADR) under the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The bill also includes language ensuring the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) develops accelerated approval reforms where labeling accelerated approval products is not required. The Autoimmune Association supports these measures and leads advocating for the need to advance rare and autoimmune disease research, and this new office will allow for more focused efforts in this area. We offer our support and assistance as the NIH works to establish this office and develop its strategy.
