INSIGHT: Conversations with Thought Leaders

Autoimmune Association is stepping up its efforts to further illustrate the understanding of the prevalence, impact, and challenges facing an estimated 50 million Americans living with autoimmune diseases. The stakes have never been higher, especially now with the COVID-19 pandemic. CDC has made it clear that among those facing a higher mortality risk from COVID-19 are people who have serious underlying medical conditions, including those with autoimmune diseases.

As part of AARDA’s efforts this month, we launched an interview series, INSIGHT: Conversations with Thought Leaders. This series will bring new information and compelling perspectives on issues of critical importance to the autoimmune community and raises awareness about best practices and strategies for change.

AARDA’s first INSIGHT interview is with Lee-Anna. She is a patient with an autoimmune disease, a nurse practitioner, and an advocate. Lee-Anna was forced to plan her funeral at the age of 36. She battled the harmful effects of step therapy and is a dedicated advocate that travels the country to encourage changes in access restriction policies including harmful step therapy practices. Click here to read about Lee-Anna’s efforts to make a difference and her continuing commitment to educate decision makers and help others become advocates.
