2025 Legislative Fly-In Event

The Autoimmune Association is hosting an in-person fly-in March 19-21, 2025! This event will provide a unique opportunity for autoimmune patients across the U.S. to come to the nation’s Capitol to advocate for policies affecting those living with autoimmune disease.

Advocacy is one of the Autoimmune Association’s four pillars aimed at improving the lives of those with autoimmune disease. We are committed to elevating policies that positively impact the entire autoimmune community, but we need your voice!

The goals for the Fly-In event are:

  • Increase Congressional awareness about the needs of those living with autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases
  • Focus Congressional asks on patient access to care, undue burden, federal research funding, and other timely issues
  • Deliver a unified policy message from autoimmune patient advocates and care partners.

In most cases, you will meet in the legislators’ offices.

Do I need previous advocacy experience?

Definitely not! We will provide training and talking points.

How can I prepare?

Prior to the event, we will hold a training session with participants. The training session will help advocates better understand how to speak to elected leaders to get their point across and will use role-playing to demonstrate. The training will help you develop a convincing and compelling case and prepare you to respond to any questions. We will also provide talking points and key messages as guidance.

The Importance of Legislative Advocacy

The Importance of Legislative Advocacy

U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) discusses the importance of the National Coalition of Autoimmune Patient Groups’ Virtual Congressional Fly-In to drive our shared mission, emphasizing that “We need everyone’s voices in this fight.” She urges advocates to meet with lawmakers, saying, “Congress is an institution that responds to external pressure,” adding, “Never take no for an answer.”

The Autoimmune Association has bestowed its 2023 Autoimmune Congressional Leadership Award to Representative DeLauro for her commitment to increasing funding for autoimmune disease research and and staunch support of patient-first policies.
